Airports: Selma and the larger Black Belt region are not well-served by airports or transportation.

Atlanta International Airport will be your cheapest option to fly and is approximately three hours away from Selma (one-way)

For those that can fly into Montgomery, it is the airport closest to Selma (less than an hour away); Montgomery Airport may have direct flights from Washington D.C., Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas-Fort Worth; Workshop shuttles will run from the Montgomery airport to Selma on the Sunday for each session

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is around a two-hour drive from Selma.

Airport shuttles to Auburn and Montgomery are readily available, yet may not be available to Selma and the cost may be high ( for example, Groome Transportation is ~ $100 one way with tip); click here for Groome website; if you take a shuttle to Montgomery, the Sunday workshop shuttle will pick you up (more information, including contact information, TBD)

In Selma, there will be private shuttle transportation to the workshops and sites, and back to Montgomery on Thursday; if you rent a car, you may choose to take the shuttle to tour sites or follow in a rental car; you will need to travel in your rental car on TH from Selma to Montgomery as we will not be returning to Selma; the workshop shuttles will stop and provide information to all (the shuttles are NOT tour buses)

Selma - We have arranged for lodging at Selma University for those who wish to stay on campus at no cost to participants. The 15 dorm rooms can accommodate up to 30 people, with each room having 2 beds (double-occupancy)

Thursday night will require you to make reservations for lodging in downtown Montgomery (consider downtown hotels such as Springhill Suites, Hampton Inn, Double Tree - check online through booking.com, Expedia, hotel.com, or other travel sites for the best prices).

We have tentatively arranged for early arrivals on Saturday evening at the Montgomery Airport with Shuttle Transportation and check-in to the Selma University Dorms.
Lodging at Selma University
We have arranged for lodging at Selma University for those who wish to stay on-campus at no cost to participants. The 15 dorm rooms can accommodate up to 30 people, with each room having 2 TWIN size beds. All rooms are double-occupancy. The University is a historic HBCU located just outside of downtown Selma, the campus is central to each day’s activities and workshops for Sunday to Thursday (checkout). Please let us know if you wish to stay at the University if you are selected. You may wish to bring extra bedding and towels if you select to stay in the dorm rooms. One family size refrigerator will be made available in the dorms (there are no individual dorm size refrigerators).

Fitness/Gyms
For those who wish to exercise or maintain a fitness routine, please check out options at the YMCA of Dallas County or InShapeFitness. You may need to pay a fee or personal transportation to the locations.
For those who would rather stay in a hotel, Selma has a few options. The most conveniently located is the St. James Hotel in downtown Selma. Other options nearby include a Hampton Inn and Quality Inn. We will meet each day at Selma University which is walking distance from the St. James Hotel. Staying elsewhere will require a car.
