Travel and Lodging

Airports: Selma and the larger Black Belt region are not well-served by airports or transportation.

  • Atlanta International Airport will be your cheapest option to fly and is approximately three hours away from Selma (one-way)

  • For those that can fly into Montgomery, it is the airport closest to Selma (less than an hour away);  Montgomery Airport may have direct flights from Washington D.C., Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas-Fort Worth;  Workshop shuttles will run from the Montgomery airport to Selma on the Sunday for each session

  • The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is around a two-hour drive from Selma.

Transportation from the Airport to Workshops

  • Workshop shuttles will run from the Montgomery airport to Selma on Sunday for each session

  • We recommend transportation to Selma by rental car if you fly into the Atlanta International Airport

  • Airport shuttles to Auburn and Montgomery are readily available, yet may not be available to Selma and the cost may be high ( for example, Groome Transportation is ~ $100 one way with tip); click here for Groome website; if you take a shuttle to Montgomery, the Sunday workshop shuttle will pick you up (more information, including contact information, TBD)

  • In Selma, there will be private shuttle transportation to the workshops and sites, and back to Montgomery on Thursday; if you rent a car, you may choose to take the shuttle to tour sites or follow in a rental car; you will need to travel in your rental car on TH from Selma to Montgomery as we will not be returning to Selma; the workshop shuttles will stop and provide information to all (the shuttles are NOT tour buses)
